Organizations

We have many organizations here at Holy Trinity - St. Nicholas. Below are links and brief summaries of what we have to offer.Click on the organization's name to go to their webpage.

Philoptochos

The Ladies Philoptochos Society has been the philanthropic arm of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and the local Parish in the United States since its founding in 1931. There are over 400 chapters nationwide. The ZOODOCHOS PEGHE chapter here at Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas was chartered on March 16, 1944. The local chapter is governed by the By-laws of the National Philoptochos of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. The mission of the Society is to be a "friend of the poor," which is its meaning in Greek. It fulfills its mission by aiding the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the sick, the orphaned, the widowed, the aged and infirm, the handicapped and the victims of disaster. Philoptochos also offers assistance to those who may need the help of the Church through special funds or solicitations on the National, Metropolitan and local levels. In addition to these philanthropic endeavors, the Philoptochos chapters strive to perpetuate and promote the Greek Orthodox faith and traditions and to preserve the sacredness of the Orthodox Christian family. Educational programs, lectures and seminars are another service of the organization. The Philoptochos participated in the activities of the Parish with the cooperation of the Parish Priest and Parish Council.

AHEPA

AHEPA is the largest Greek-American association in the world with chapters in the United States, Canada, Greece, Cyprus, and sister chapters in Australia and New Zealand. It was established in 1922 by visionary Greek Americans to protect Hellenes from prejudice originating from the KKK, and in its history, AHEPA joined with the NAACP and B'nai B'rith International to fight discrimination.

The mission of the AHEPA family is to promote the ancient Greek ideals of education, philanthropy, civic responsibility and family and individual excellence through community service and volunteerism.

For more information about the AHEPA family, or how to join, please contact AHEPA Headquarters, (202) 232-6300, or visit www.ahepa.org. You may also contact any local AHEPA member. AHEPA officers are listed on this webpage.

Daughters of Penelope

The Daughters of Penelope is the largest international Christian women's organization. It is the women's Order of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). The mission of the AHEPA Family is to promote Hellenism, Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, and Family and Individual Excellence. In addition to AHEPA and Daughters, the AHEPA Family also includes the Sons of Pericles and the Maids of Athena.

The focus of the Daughters of Penelope has expanded in recent years to all issues involving women, especially those involving domestic violence. As a result, Penelope House in Alabama (a first for Alabama) and Penelope's Place in Massachusetts were established to aid abused women. In addition, many chapters provide housing for abused women in their local communities. The Daughters support legislation that benefits women at all levels of government.
